177. Joseph9 Winemiller (Jacob8, John7, John Frantz (Francis)6, Johannes (John)5 Weinmuller, Conrad4 Weinmueller, Johannes "Hans"3, Hans Friedrich II2, Hans Friedrich I1) (#696) was born Monroe County Ohio May 10, 1840.

He married twice. He married M Thomas Adams County, Iowa, April 29, 1866. (M Thomas is #715.) M was born Grant County, Indiana March 2, 1846. M was the daughter of Isaac Thomas and Jane. M died April 11, 1873 at 27 years of age. He married Sarah Jane Pickens Worth County, Iowa, April 1, 1874. (Sarah Jane Pickens is #720.) Sarah was born Davis County, Iowa February 19, 1852. Sarah was the daughter of Levi Pickens. Joseph Winemiller, a prominent farmer and stock raiser of Worth County, Missouri was born in Monroe County, Ohio 10 May, 1840. The son of Jacob and Elitha Carpenter Winemiller. The former from York County, Pennsylvania; the latter was born in Monroe County, New York. In the spring of 1858 the subject of this sketch moved to Iowa with his father, locating in Adams County. He passed his early life on a farm and received a common school education. In October 1861 he enlisted in the Forth Iowa Cavalry, and served four years during the war, participating in the battles of Raymond, Jackson, Champion's Hill, Siege of Vicksburg, Guntown and Selma, besides other engagements. At Guntown he received a severe wound, and was discharged in August 1865. Locating in Worth County, Missouri while his father had relocated during his interim in the service. On 29 April 1866 he married M. Thomas, daughter of Isaac and Jane Thomas, at Adams County, Iowa. His wife was borg in Grant County, Indiana March 2, 1846. They are the owners of 160 acres of land in Section 13, twnsp 66, range 33. All fenced, with an orchard of apple, peach and cherry and small fruit trees. Mrs W died April 11, 1873 leaving two children: Francis, born 9 May 1867 and Jennie born 9 Dec. 1869. Mr Winemiller married the second time in Worth County, April 1, 1874 to Sarah Jane Pickens. Her father was Levi Pickens, and she was born in Davis County, Iowa, Febr. 19, 1852. One child: Charles, born 15, Sept, 1875. Mr and Mrs W are members of the Methodist Church. He engaged in teaching and was elected Justice of the Peace of Union Township at the election of 1872 serving in that capacity for the past 10 years.
